The development of Organic EL, highly anticipated as the future of display technology, is one of the new winds blowing in Yamagata Prefecture.

High luminance, visibility from a wide range of angles, ultra-thinness, light weight and flexibility are the excellent qualities of Organic EL that make it an important prospect for the future of display technology,　in terms of both growth potential and marketability.
Yamagata is becoming an “Organic Electronics Valley” centered around the Research Institute for Organic Electronics. The Research Center established as a foothold for applied research, focused around the high technological abilities of Yamagata University, a world leader in Organic EL research, and private enterprises within the prefecture.

Since a prefectural businesses have succeeded in the world's first mass-manufacturing of Organic EL displays and other related achievements, Organic EL, a Yamagata innovation, has begun to be used in our everyday lives.
In the future，Organic EL has the potential to expand limitlessly. It will be used not only in displays, but will replace fluorescence as a light source in illumination, signs, and panels on all kinds of household electronic items.
