| In Yamagata, a region whose abundance supports an unending thirst for exploration, a spirit of perseverance in the face of difficulty and a strong sense of passion are alive and well. In 1997, Yamagata was the site of the first successful mass production and practical application of OEL (Organic Electro-Luminescence) in the world. The development of Organic EL, highly anticipated as the future of display technology, is one of the new winds blowing in Yamagata Prefecture. |
| High luminance, visibility from a wide range of angles, ultra-thinness, light weight and flexibility are the excellent qualities of Organic EL that make it an important prospect for the future of display technology, in terms of both growth potential and marketability. Yamagata is becoming an “Organic Electronics Valley” centered around the Research Institute for Organic Electronics. The Research Center established as a foothold for applied research, focused around the high technological abilities of Yamagata University, a world leader in Organic EL research, and private enterprises within the prefecture. |
